The Rev. Chris Hayes will be inducted as the rector of the Parish of Quispamsis at St. Augustine's Church, Quispamsis Road, Quispamsis, on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 7:00 p.m.

Electoral Synod in Moosonee
The Diocese of Moosonee will hold an Electoral Synod on April 10, 2010 to elect a successor to Bishop Caleb Lawrence, who retired earlier this year. The minimum requirements for a diocesan bishop according to the Canons of the Diocese of Moosonee are: clergy of no less than thirty (30) years of age, having been a priest for no less than seven (7) years. Visit the website of the Diocese of Moosonee to learn about the diocese. Chaplains for Camp Medley

Camp Medley seeks clergyand lay professionals to serve as chaplains for a week this summer. Previous experience is not required. The chaplain's week involves planning and leading chapel sessions in the morning and the evening as well as participating in day-to-day activities as able. Donations for Haiti continue to pour into PWRDF

The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) is sending $50,000 to the Episcopal diocese of Haiti, which has been caring for about 23,000 Haitians displaced by the powerful earthquake that struck various parts of the country on Jan. 12.

Long-term sustainability behind PWRDF re-structuring, says director

The budget cuts and major restructuring at The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) are meant to ensure the organization’s long-term sustainability, said its outgoing executive director Cheryl Curtis. “What I would hope folks would see when they hear this news is…that there is a commitment to providing a program for expressing the PWRDF ministry that uses their resources very responsibly and in a very focused way,” said Curtis. Cheryl Curtis, executive director of The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF), is resigning effective end of February, Archbishop Fred Hiltz, primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, announced today. Curtis’ departure was announced a day after a major staff restructuring was unveiled at the PWRDF, spurred, PWRDF’s executive committee said, by a 26 per cent cut in its budget for 2010-2011. Church of England loses $78 million in New York real estate deal

Washington DC: The Church of England stands to lose about US$78 million in a New York real estate investment gone sour, according to Episcopal News Service. The Anglican church's investment was part of a record-setting $5.4 billion deal put together in 2006 by two New York-based firms to buy two massive apartment complexes in Manhattan, Religion News Service reports.
After defaulting on loan payments, the firms will cede the downtown properties -- Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village -- to its lenders. Read the story.

Diocese of British Columbia releases restructuring plan

The diocese of British Columbia has announced a plan to close 13 churches in a dramatic restructuring. While the plan is a response to declining church attendance, Bishop James Cowan says it goes beyond cost-cutting, asking how the church can best focus its resources to carry out its mission as well as rebuild for the future. PWRDF slashes 2010-2011 budget by 26%

The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) has cut its 2010-2011 operating budget by 26 per cent. In 2012, another 10 per cent will be cut in a bid to end deficit budgeting and replenish its monetary reserve. “As a result of the budget reductions, program delivery costs must be reduced,” said Cheryl Curtis, PWRDF executive director, in an email to staff at the Anglican Church of Canada’s national office in Toronto. These are the words of Bishop Jean Zache Duracin of the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti two weeks after the earthquake which has become known simply as 'La Catastrophe.' In his reflections posted on the website of the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti Bishop Duracin describes the devastation and present living conditions, and his own diocese's outreach to thousands of people who have been made homeless, including children and disabled people, and many who are wounded. He reflects that for Haiti the course of history has changed. He looks to the future, with prayer and in faith, for long-term partnership with others who might accompany the people of Haiti as they work to rebuild and restore. Read the story.

The diocesan bishop of Haiti, Jean Zache Duracin, has set up a crisis commission to respond to the needs of victims who have turned to the church for much-needed support. Meanwhile, Canadian Anglicans continue to respond to the call for donations for the victims of the earthquake that killed nearly 200,000 people and leveled most of the capital, Port-au-Prince. Archbishop of Canterbury, Presiding Bishop address global concerns in UN meeting

In Haiti's 'new era' Episcopalians around the world offer help

In a letter titled "One is in the wilderness but safe in faith," Episcopal Diocese of Haiti Bishop Jean Zaché Duracin says the destructive Jan. 12 earthquake began a "new era" in the history of that impoverished nation. "This is also a new era in the history of humanitarian aid because the catastrophe has dealt a terrible blow to more than 10 million living beings -- inhabitants who have lost their homes and their way of life," the bishop wrote in a letter posted in French here (ENS received an English translation Jan. 24). "The capital [Port-au-Prince] is transformed into an immense refuge camp. They call desperately for water, food, and medicine." Read the story.

Theological students prepare for overseas plunge
