The Diocesan Resource Centre

at Anglican House

By Pat Drummond

The Diocesan Resource Centre at Anglican House in Saint John received a lot of valuable new material over the summer. Thanks to a federal government grant to employ a student for the summer, it is all catalogued, processed and ready for New Brunswick Anglicans to borrow.

Adam MassonAdam Masson, a third year UNBSJ Information Technology student and a member of the Parish of Victoria, worked for 10 weeks processing the Resource Centre material and assisting in many other ways with the running of the Anglican House bookstore.

There is an on-line catalogue of the Resource Centre’s holdings and all its holdings may be borrowed by individuals or parishes — picked up in person, or mailed out free of charge. It is the borrower's responsibility to ensure and pay for their return.

Many items are ideal to enhance Sunday school programs. The Martin and the Heavenly Tree DVD explains the origin of the Christmas tree and is especially popular.

Name, Shells, Open, and You have been added to the Nooma DVD series so popular with youth groups. The three DVD set of 36 Parables in a Modern Context is also available.

Books recommended at the Halifax spring conference Leading the Church Through Change in a Changing Environment are in stock. The titles —  I Refuse to Lead a Dying Church, Tribal Church: Ministering to the Missing Generation, The Practicing Congregation: Imagining a New Old Church and Creative Giving: Understanding Planned Giving and Endowments in the Church are provocative and hopeful. For those more interested in Christian spirituality there are books like Prayer: Does it Make any Difference? by Yancy. You’ll also find Romeo Dallaire's Seeking the Sacred: Leading a Spiritual Life in a Secular World, as well as a teaching kit on Richard Foster's book Streams of Living Water. New DVD titles include Invitation to Silence: an Aid to Centering Prayer. The Faith Lessons series is so popular that they are rarely available, so this summer we added several titles in this series in DVD format.

Check out the old and new titles in the Resource Centre. You may find exactly what you're seeking for a Bible study, an educational program for an ACW or other adult group, personal devotional reading or to enliven youth group or Sunday school.
