Empty Vessels/Enough for All

A day to replenish the soul.

Of special interest to people committed to mission & justice

March 20, 2010 9 am – 4 pm

St. Peter’s Church, Parish of Upham

Empty Vessels/Enough for All:

A one day retreat/quiet day, an opportunity to engage in a day of prayer and reflection focusing on our call to love our neighbour, opening people engaged in the work of justice (Empty Vessels) to being filled, renewed spiritually.

This day of common worship and contemplative prayer is an opportunity for an encounter with God, "topping us up" spiritually.

There can be Enough for All when Jesus is present at the banquet, as the water is changed into wine, when we, as servants, are prepared spiritually to help complete the miracle of sharing in God's abundance.

Then, at the end of the day, as a community of people who call for Jubilee, we can eagerly “Go forth in peace to love and serve the Lord!”

How to find St. Peter’s

From Saint John: Take the Hampton Exit and at the stop sign turn right. (Hall Rd.)

From Sussex: Take the Hampton Exit and at the stop sign turn left. (Hall Rd.)

Not far up the Hall Rd. take the first right (Robertson Rd.) and follow that road to the end. Turn left and follow the Titusville Rd. to the end (be careful not to turn left, following Rte 860, just after the Titusville Store. Drive to the end of the Titusville Rd. and take a left. St. Peter’s Church is a few km down Rte 820, the larger church on your right.

The 100 mile diet is a term used to describe a diet which consists entirely of foods grown and raised within 100 (161 kilometres) of the dinner table. Followers of the 100 mile diet often describe themselves as “locavores,” because they eat locally produced food. There are environmental as well as economic benefits. It supports local agriculture and local businesses by purchasing produce and meats that are grown and processed in a geographical region that the individual considers to be local. A second consideration often involves the idea that food grown locally will be more environmentally friendly, fresher and therefore more nutritious than food shipped in from distant locations. We are asking participants to bring a dish for lunch using food grown in the Maritimes.

"Fair Trade" is a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect that seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers - especially in the South. Fair Trade organizations (backed by consumers) are engaged actively in supporting producers, awareness raising and in campaigning for change in the rules and practices of conventional international trade. We will be serving Fair Trade Coffee and Tea at this retreat.
