The Guild emphasizes private devotion, attendance at public worship and Christian acts and behaviour by its members. In accord with these principles, individual Guilds tend to operate as working groups rather than prayer groups, making their offering to God and the Church through the Guild’s work.
Prayer is not forgotten. The following are prayers used by many Guilds in opening and closing their meetings.

Leader: The Lord be with you.
Members: And also with you.
Our Father, who art in heaven …
All: Heavenly Father, in thy name we have assembled and in thy name we desire to proceed in all our doings. Grant that the words of our lips and the thoughts of our hearts may always be acceptable in thy sight through Jesus Christ our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
Glory be to the Father, and to the son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now and will be for ever. Amen.
Leader: O God most high who from the family of thy servant David didst raise up Joseph to be the protector of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of our Lord: Grant that we may so labour in our earthly vocations, that they become labours of love and service offered to thee, our Father; through the same our Lord Jesus Christ, who with thee and the Holy Spirit liveth and reigneth, one God for ever and for ever. Amen.
Leader: Let us bless the Lord.
Members: Thanks be to God.
All: The Almighty and merciful Lord, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, bless and preserve us. Amen.
For the mission of the Church
Draw your Church together, O Lord, into one great company of disciples, together following our Lord Jesus Christ into every walk of life, together serving him in his mission to the world, and together witnessing to his love on every continent and island. We ask this in his name and for his sake.
For all Christians in their vocation
Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of your faithful people is governed and sanctified, receive our supplications and prayers, which we offer before you for all the members of your holy Church, that in their vocation and ministry they may truly and devoutly serve you; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
For the Nation
Almighty God, you have given us this good land as our heritage. May we prove ourselves a people mindful of your generosity and glad to do your will. Bless our land with honest industry, truthful education, and an honourable way of life. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance; and from every evil course of action. Make us who came from many nations with many different languages a united people. Defend our liberties and give those whom we have entrusted with the authority of government the spirit of wisdom, that there may be justice and peace in our land. When times are prosperous, let our hearts be thankful; and, in troubled times, do not let our trust in you fail. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.
For Divine assistance
Prevent us, O Lord, in all our doings with thy most gracious favour, and further us with thy continual help; that in all our works, begun, continued and ended in thee, we may glorify thy holy name, and finally by thy mercy obtain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
For Divine protection
O Almighty Lord, and everlasting God, vouchsafe, we beseech thee, to direct, sanctify, and govern, both our hearts and bodies, in ways of thy laws, and in the works of thy commandments; that through thy most mighty protection, both here and ever, we may be preserved in body and soul; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus, throughout all ages, world without end.
