Hello and welcome to the layreader blog site for the Diocese of Fredericton! This site is where you will find notices of layreader education opportunities and events. A special date to keep in mind is Saturday May 14th, 2016 as that is when you will have an opportunity to participate in the “Bishop’s Layreader Day”. This will be a full day event and is going to be held at Christ Church Parish Church in Fredericton. More details will be posted in the New Year.
The past few months have been busy gathering valuable information from the Bishop and clergy in the Diocese about the roles and education needs of layreaders. The Bishop approved a pilot training program to help layreaders discern their call to lay ministry. The 6-week pilot program called ‘S.H.A.P.E. – Your Shape for God’s Service’ was held with 14 layreaders in attendance at St. Margaret’s in Fredericton and was well received. The S.H.A.P.E program as well as two other education opportunities (‘Reading Scripture & Liturgy in Public’ and “See Through the Scriptures’) will be available in 2016 with dates and times posted as they become available.
This is an exciting time for layreaders as the Bishop challenges each of us to embrace our call to lay ministry!
I look forward to meeting each of you as I travel the province.
